Accessing Norton Secure VPN in India
Due to new cybersecurity regulations in India, NortonLifeLock will be making changes to VPN availability. Recently there is an announcement from the Government, Effective from Jun 27 2022, All VPN providers to log information such as email addresses, IP addresses, time stamps, and more as per The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). This information must then be stored for a minimum of 5 years.
Since VPN providers are committed to keeping their customer's data private and this directive is incompatible with Norton's No-Log VPN policy. As a result, starting June 27th, Norton Secure VPN will not be accessible within India and will no longer offer India server access to all users, regardless of location. However, all users will still be able to use our VPN while traveling outside of India.
What this means for you:
- You may continue to use Secure VPN, while traveling outside of India
- You will not be able to access Secure VPN, while physically located in India
- You will not be able to access an India server from any location
What other changes will be seen in the product?
- India region would be removed from the region list
- Customers who try to connect to any VPN region from India would receive the standard VPN connectivity error messages (like below)
For more information on the directive, please refer to the Government CERT-In Directive

ExpressVPN Also Removing Servers in India After Refusing to Comply with Government Order
Virtual Private Network (VPN) provider ExpressVPN on Thursday announced that it’s removing Indian-based VPN servers(because of the same reason stated above) i.e., in response to the new cybersecurity directive issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
“Rest assured, our users will still be able to connect to VPN servers that will give them Indian IP addresses and allow them to access the internet as if they were located in India. These ‘virtual’ India servers will instead be physically located in Singapore and the U.K.” the company said.

On June 26, 2022 NordVPN also will shut down its servers operating in India.
However, apart from this, NordVPN services will operate as usual in the
country.
Rest of the VPN providers also may take the same path.
